1.   Tom West  The Lives of Our Neighbours

This series of photographs was taken in the centre of Stuttgart. The pictures show places and situations we often find ourselves in, but rarely notice. Often they have faded away – either consciously or unconsciously – before we have a chance to think about them. The neighbours mentioned in the title do not appear in the pictures, but the buildings, surroundings and traces left by people let the observer deduce positive and negative elements. The photographs do not want to judge, but rather ask us whether we know the neighbours that are introduced indirectly, whether we accept them. It is the decision of the observers to decide whether they see them as part of this neighbourhood or whether they want to distance themselves from the other people and their lives.
