A pinhole camera – an ancient form of image creation. A pinhole camera in the Eternal City of Rome – a fascinating experiment.

Using this form of photography makes sense to me, especially in Rome. Most of all because of its potential to create a unique image language. A language which deludes and misleads – partly due to the blurriness of the movements in the subjects. Reality and fiction become indistinct, the perception of time is confused, everything is flowing. What is new appears to be old and vice versa.

That is why a pinhole camera is suited like no other technique for Rome, the city that cannot be described, the city of contrasts. And that is precisely why I chose it.
